Single Sign-On (SSO)

Overview

Single Sign-On (SSO), as a solution assists a user to avoid multiple login for various applications. It allows users to log in once, using what appears to be a single method or credential to gain access to multiple hosts and applications, thereby eliminating the need for multiple logins accompanied by multiple passwords. To summarize, SSO facilitates in logging in once and gain access to all the systems without being prompted to log in again for multiple applications. As various applications support various modes of authentication procedures, what single sign-on does is that it internally translates and store different credentials compared to what is used for initial authentication.

SSO helps Users

  • SSO comes with the advantage of a single User ID and password which reduces the complication of remembering multiple passwords.
  • Once the user is logged into one SSO application, all other SSO application can be accessed without logging in separately.

SSO helps the IT Organization

  • With SSO, the organizations can have a single point of User Account Management or Access Control.
  • The access to cloud based applications can be controlled without needing complete assistance from the service providers.
